Châteauneuf-du-Pape  -

In the 14th century, during their stays in Avignon, the popes – and especially Pope John XXII – built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area's exceptional soils, they decided to establish vineyards on the slopes surrounding the château. Results were outstanding thanks to the amazing terroir and micro-climate proposed by the area. Since then, wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape gained fame and recognition around the world.

A unique terroir /

The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape has unique conditions: on the surface, the large sun-warmed stones diffuse a gentle, providential heat that helps the grapes to mature and their juice to reach excellent concentration.

A symphony of 13 grape varieties / 13

The vineyards are home to the “Symphony of 13 grape varieties”. This is typical of this AOC, all the vines are complanted – on the same parcel, several grape varieties are planted together. It provides aromatic complexity, strength and balance to the wines.

For the red wines, four varieties dominate: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, supplemented by Counoise, Muscardin, Terret and Vaccarèse. The whites are made from white-grape vines: Clairette, Roussane, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Picardan and Picpoul.
